Ragusa is right in the heart of the "land
the carob, olive and honey "that
admirably tells Gesualdo Bufalino ...

Discoprendo ... gently, before our eyes, silent and tranquil scenarios, the uniform flatness route from the clear geometry of low low walls that draw mazes non-existent. It reaches out white and gray on a long, narrow rock spur between two deep and steep valleys. A third depression, almost an isthmus separating the two nuclei of the city: Ibla, in the East, the oldest part, the irregular and picturesque layout, where splendid Baroque buildings, Ragusa, in the West, modern-looking, which is extending towards the south, bypassing the cave of Santa Domenica with three bold bridges. Thus, seen from afar, with the clear eye of the traveler. From near Ragusa is a sleepy provincial town, Sundays walking around the course, with the ambition to have the solution for everything, to peek through the shutters closed hiding the cool of beautiful ancestral mansions; counting the doves among the baroque curls the busy sculpting the houses. Dubrovnik's old city on a human scale, a woman, a child, clean, the color of the stone, in the air like a smell of honey. Ibla, the ancient Hyblea Heraia the Sicilians that dominated the valley dell'Irminio was colonized by the Greeks of Syracuse and shared over the centuries, the fate of the whole of Sicily alternately under the dominion of the Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, Angevins and Spaniards. Totally destroyed by the terrible earthquake of 1693, resources and extending westward ornandosi of beautiful baroque monuments that you come across practically at every step. To visit Ragusa takes one day.

The Cathedral - dedicated to St. John, it rises imposingly near the intersection of the two main avenues of Ragusa, Italy Via Roma and Corso. It was built starting in 1694 and outlines with a large roof terrace on Piazza San Giovanni. The large and lively facade is flanked by a massive bell tower terminating in a cusp. The interior has a nave and two aisles, the nineteenth-century chapels are decorated with fine stucco.

S. Maria delle Scale - It is a small church founded by the Cistercians in the fourteenth century, near the long staircase that connects Ragusa in Ragusa Ibla. It was rebuilt after the earthquake, preserving the outside, the original Gothic portal and the pulpit and, inside, the four chapels with Gothic arches and Renaissance.

Garden Iblean - is the city park in Ragusa Ibla. Inside there is the Church of San Domenico. Not far from the Church of the Capuchins, the importance of which is linked to the fact that it is a triptych painted by Pietro Novelli and the ancient site of the ruined church of San Giorgio Vecchio, a fine example of Gothic architecture.

The Cathedral - Named after St. George, dominates the top of the Piazza Duomo from the top of an impressive staircase leading to the portal surmounted by beautiful reliefs depicting scenes from the martyrdom of St. George. The front high and soaring, as if to reach heaven, is a masterpiece of Rosario Gagliardi (who also, by the way, the similar splendid facade of San Giorgio in Modica). The interior has a Latin cross, stands the majestic organ Serassi from 1881 called Organum Maximum, as the largest that has ever been manufactured by Serassi.
